TRIP TO PENANG

The trip to Penang was really fun. The George Town is full of artistic places. There are many museums that we can visit in order to know the culture and also many arts that people in the past love too. This town is full of the traditional houses that we can observe from the type of windows how the exterior look really classic. Nowdays we see all the building was build in minimalist style but the classic style give the sense of vintage and classy. The food in Penang was really nice because the town was very diverse with many ethnics of people we can taste many different kind of food from Indian, Chinese, Malaysia traditional cuisine, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.

TYPEWRITER

Typewriter started in 1874 when its first commercially introduced. In mid-1880s the typewriter widely already use by the professional writer, company, and for settlement letters. Going on  to 1980s it's become standard fixture in most office. After that year computer was already well invented and people start to used computer more than the typewriter because computer is more practical and easy to carry so, people start to throw their typewriter and nowadays it's not been using anymore.

PROJECT 02: FORGOTTEN CULTURE

Students are required to propose and produce functional/interactive conceptual art‘device’ that will be both an art piece that is conceptual + narratives that itself in artistic manner. Your approach of subject matter shall derive either from dying culture from the site visit in Penang or other states in Malaysia. Historical precedents are key to ensure a successful creation of the conceptual model. Additionally, students are required to infuse keywords as physical process in their conceptual art model, into a tangible reality. Conceptual keywords process must be injected to better understand, sculpt and mould their conceptual model accordingly. Students must choose at least a MINIMUM of THREE (3)keywords (maximum 5) and work your way around based on those keywords to realize your potential functional conceptual art model, physically.

This model is actually the mechanism of the typewriter even though it is not the same as the real one but, this model can have the movement and also produce the sound. Why I make it like that? Because typewriter sound is very unique and I want people to know to produce the sound it is not as easy as it look. The mechanism is very complex and when people assemble the typewriter it must be precise. For making this model I do 3 mockup in order to figure it out the mechanism.

(ARTIST IN RESIDENT)

Students are required to design and build the interior from the given site; Jao Tim. Design conceptual is requisite to inherit from Project 02: Forgotten Culture as approach and subject matter. Execution must be shown in detail design process & programming via various mediums of art creatively in continuous A3 size butter paper (minimum) of drawings, model making, photography, experimentation, narration and in-depth research of the selected idea of the tittle. Artist In Residence is essential to be visualized as a space for the artisan to occupy temporarily in a period of given time (not a long term stay). The spatial programming, amenities and function shall correlate with the requirement of the artist and producing the object/services derived from the Forgotten Culture assignment into the space. A hub for designer, specifically for the fading culture item/services in the making for a comeback.

Overall Idea

In my design there are many lines and many different level because it is indicate the mechanism of the typewriter itself. when you open the typewriter we will see the complexity and many joineries. In my special design which is the gallery it's all made connected one to another by the joiner and all the elements that being use was the materials from the typewriter. The different level indicate when you type in the typewriter you will push the key down and it's consist many levelling involved.

REFLECTION

In this semester I learn a lot. On project 1 I learn how to work in the large group and in that time I make mistakes but, from that mistake I learn to be more mature in having group work with others and not taking all the load by myself. In project 2 I'm having ups and down in the process but now I learn that every mistake that we make made me realise something and give new knowledge for me. Lastly, for the final project I actually don't think I give my best performance in this project but I learn a lot about my time management I think in this semester every subject put the big project in the back and sometimes in 1 day there will be 3 submissions in big scale. By experience it now I don't want to make the same mistake in the future and this semester I also having mental breakdown several times so in the future I don't want any of this happening again and I want to give the best performance on my work. this semester teach me lots of thing and there are many things going on in this semester and I hope I can learn from it.
